13.05.2010 Same old Dex, but with the fixed TXTC.

If Dex is not working
1. Download the framework (or use delphy's monkey installer)
2. If an object mod is not working it's becuase you are missing a certain dll (d3dx9_31.dll). After installing the framework, make sure it's in your TS3 bin folder, the path is something like this
- C:/Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Game/Bin
3. If you have WA, the dll needs to be copied to the WA bin folder
- C:/Program Files/Electronic Arts/ The Sims 3 World Adventures/Game/bin
4. If dex is still not working, re-download dex, sometimes you just got a bad copy.
5. Still having trouble? Then here's a link to the wiki.

31.12.2009 edit
- Removed the older dex versions, as they no longer worked.

Dexter WA
Changes:
- You no longer loose your job if you are a criminal and get caught.
- For a witness to be able to call the cops, they have to be a child or above. Baby/toddler witnesses will still hate you.
- Added dex interactions outside of the inventory
- Instead of just adding the code that lets you put dex into the inventory, I replaced it with the base.OnStartup(), which means that all bear interactions are now included. The reason why dex wouldn't go into the inventory after the patch/WA was because EA changed the line of code to put stuff into the inventory. This change should keep dex more stable, after updates.
- The version I put now out, is the one where for a moment you see two weapons, as that version was more popular.
- I will not update the previous mods any more, they will stay as is.
- I removed the first dex version, as it was bugy and such.

Dex and WA:
- You can kill abroad, my lovely tester as well as I have tested this.
- You don't however go to jail, nor should the cop come as there are no jails abroad. Haven't tested what happens if you put a jail into a travel destination.
- Even thou no jail time abroad, all the other getting caught stuff will happen, people will hate you and you will loose your job if it's not criminal and you get the aura of evil.
- The moodlets you get from dex after a kill, will dissapear when you go on a holiday. So if your sim is too depressed becuase they saw a killing, you now have a good reason to take them on a relaxing trip.

Dex and no WA
- I won't be doing a dex that supports basegame + updates. The new dex should (I hope) work with the update as well, as I don't use any WA spesific code in it.

Dexter V2
Bugs fixed:
- the disappearing weapon. It still sometimes disappear, but it's way more stable now.
To keep the weapon from disappearing, I had to create it twice, once when the sim starts walking to the victim, then just before the killing animations starts. But this lead to a bug that for a fraction of a second, you end up with two weapons in your hand, and I have yet to figure out how to get that fixed.
So I present you with two version:
- Dexter V2: The weapon is drawn the moment the killing starts
- Dexter V2 DW: The sim will walk to the victim with the weapon in hand, but for a second you'll have two weapons in your hand.
In case anybody is interested, I used the DW version, because I love seeing my sims walk to the victim with the weapon.

- also fixed the bug that if the killing fails because the victim moved, you still got the moodlets.
- Other minor fixes, but can't remember what they were.

New features
- If good witnesses see you, you will get arrested (evil witnesses won't call the cops). Getting arrested only works for adults, if a teen kills, then the cop will show up, but no arresting will happen.
- Aura of evil: if you get caught, you'll get the aura of evil, so there will be at least some long term effects after you are freed from jail. (Thank you Raggborg for suggesting this, I had no idea it even existed)
- If you have a job before you got caught, you will get fired.
- If you got caught, all the people in the victim's household will start hating you.
- People on the lot need to have the same room id to be witnesses. They will still sense when a sim is killed and rush in to watch. (thanks duppyraces for the suggestion)

New bugs
- Sometimes you'll get arrested twice in a roll. So eat well before killing because they don't feed you in jail

Old bugs from V1
- The knife is still held wrongly, haven't had time to look at this.

I always hated killing sims and got no thrill from accidental pool accidents. What I did get my kicks out of, was having my sims kill their fellow sims. In TS2 my favorite method was the "Crate of Throwing Axes" from simwardrobe because it was the closets thing to stabbing I ever got with my sims.

Unfortunately the family friendly atmosphere of TS3 was getting to my nerve, and I was bored with the - throw your victim in a dungeon and wait for them to starve - method of killing. So I made Dexter.

You will find him in the same category as the essel. So that's study -> hobbies.

Dexter is a clone of the teddy bear, he won't overwrite the original, but is a stand alone object. I use awesomemod, and have found no conflict. I'v used this mod in both my test hood, as well as my custom hood.

Put Dexter into your inventory and you will get three ways of killing a sim.
- Stabbing with a knife
- Bashing their head with a poker
- Bashing their head with a hammer

Moodlets
If the killer is evil or mean spirited, they will get three positive moodlet
- Let Off Steam, from witnessing death, 75 points, lasting 2 days
- Adrenaline Rush, from Grim Reaper, 100 points, lasting 1 day
- Fiendishly delighted, 75 points, lasting 2 days

If the killer is good
- Creaped out, from witnessing death, -75 points, 7 days
- Horrified, from watching sim suffer, -75, lasting 7 days
- Adrenaline rush, from Grim Reaper, 100 points, lasting 1 day

The reason I gave a good killer 7 days of misery is that I wanted to represent remorse.

The witnesses (other sims on the lot) will also get moodlets
Evil witness:
- Fiendishly delighted, from watching sim suffer, 75 points, 2 days.
- Intrigued, from witnessing death, 18 points, 2 days.

If the witness is good
- Scared, from witnessing death, -75 points, 7 days
- Horrified, from watching sim suffer, -75 points, 7 days
- Creeped out, from witnessing death, -75 points, 7 days

The reason I gave the good witness so much misery, is because seeing a murder is traumatizing + sims are way too happy, way to easy.

Also both types of witnesses will get a relationship update to the killer, an evil witness will get a boost of 10 points, while a good witness will have the relationship to be as low as possible.

Known bugs:
- After the killer gets the weapon out, if you zoom in too much or change the camera too much, the weapon will disappear. The disappearance will not effect the outcome, the death will still happen. I'm working on fixing this bug next.

- The knife is held a bit wrongly, and the blade will stick out from the Sim's hand.

Not bugs but other things:
- As we don't have custom animations yet, I'm recycling. The stabbing animation is poking a fire in a fire place. The sims will bend their knees a bit, which means they won't stab as high as I would like.

As this is still a work in progress, I'm open for suggestions if anybody has an idea of an animation that might work here better.

- You can't stab children. This is not because I have high moral standards, but because children don't have the starving animation, so when they die, they'll stretch out. You can how-ever bash their pretty little heads in with the hammer or the poker. For that death I use death by burning and they have that animation. Babies and toddlers are unkillable, the killer will just jump and be reseted when I tried.

I hope you enjoy Dexter as much as I do.

....however, I am sorry to be a pain in the butt, but could someone tell me whether the hate ever wears off? I kinda didn't think things through and managed to mess up my whole family... >.<
Every time I use testingcheats, to slide the relationship back up it plummets again, and I swear it's been over a week in game... =/

Get the Late night version, it seems to be the only one that works if you're fully patched.

I mean just get the late night version of the mod, you don't need the expansion pack. o: It's just for some reason when the game is fully updated it doesn't like the old versions of this mod..

i have a problem with this mod, which is when i click the ' select a sim to stab' button, my sims freeze and do nothing. I saw many people have the same problem, but no one can provide a clear explanation and solution, can anyone help me?

People, if you have patched up to the max you need to use the LN version, regardless do you have LN or not. The patch that came with LN changed the codes which causes the crash when you buy any object mod from the catalogue, that's why older versions don't work if you have updated.

I'm also not going to downgrade this mod to a patched base game, I make my mods according to what EP's I currently have.

I quick tested Dex with the new patch and he worked fine, but I did read some story on the TS3 thread that the getting arrested code might not be working. Will check that out.

What files do you download if you don't have any expansions on the original game?
I'm having issues installing.
I have the framework already installed, and I tried downloading the WA files, and they didn't work, so I downloaded them again, and they still don't work. My game is the latest update, and my other packages work, and the framework is installed properly.

Question: Is it possible to make the positive/negative moodlets for evil/good sims witnessing death always applicable? I only ask because I'm wondering if it would work for the magic skill's death interactions. I'm sick of my evil wizard sims doing in their housemates and yet mourning over them... even when the two of them were enemies.

copy your d3dx9_31.dll from sims3 game/bin folder to the game/bin folder from LN.

It won't work for me, I've placed it in my game. tried all the versions except late night (because I don't have that EP) I can't click it in the hobbies section. if I do click it my sims 3 page stops working and I have to close it. Is their anyway I could fix it.

Quick Question, I took kn0xxvill3's advice and copied over the d3dx9_31.dll over to Late Night. It worked fine but when I went to save my game it gave me the Error 13 alert. I've looked already what to do for this but is anyone else having this problem?

I hope you do manage to figure out how to add use of the chainsaw.

I was wodering if you could add the option to 'Select a Sim to Stab with Wooden Stake.' It would would be great if you could kill vampires in the traditional way.

My game does the same thing. Every time I click Dexter in buy mode, the game shuts down. I have world adventures, ambitions and high end loft installed. Anyone help?

Everytime I click on the mod in game in Buy Mode, my game crashes. The dll is in the bin folder in Sims, and the Dex file in packages. I've tried re-installing the mods, but still nothing. I don't understand whats going on. =/

i hate doing this, i feel terrible for needing help after reading all 21 pages..sorry in advance....i have all ep and sp except fast lane, i have windows 7 and a few tuning mods(homework in 15 minutes fast toddler walking potty and talk, hack anytime, food truck and no mossaic) i tried everything except using the awesome mod that was mentioned throughout all 21 pages. i have reached the end of the line the sims 3 moding is more complicated than sims 2...makes me miss sims 2

Totally not enjoying the Aura of Evil that's making my whole goddamn household hate me. What do you want me to do, kill THEM too? Really pisses me off that my sim, who is a loving mother with no enemies (not even one she killed: he was paparazzi who let himself into the security gate during a party he wasn't invited to), gets boo'd by her husband and children when her relationship bars with them is maxed out and glows red 24/7 with no way to clean it off of her. The Aura of Evil is a deal-breaker.

OTHERWISE, this is a great mod with a great implementation, and I totally appreciate the work you've put into it. :D

This is one of my all-time favorite mods and I'm glad that it's being updated. My only issue is that each murder results in a skinny fridge-raiding ghost. I would suggest a more appropriate ghost type, probably death-by-meteor since that's the only death in the game actually caused by an object. It also doesn't give the ghost any behavioral quirks, and there is no death-by-meteor sim animation, so you can use the death-by-starvation animation and then initiate death-by-meteor.

Hey, I think this mod is one of the best mods around, but please, please, please can I request something. I've got this idea about a clan of crazy vamps, so can you please add something to the dexter bear. Could you add a thing where vampires can kill or convert someone without asking, just simply biting them. Please work on that and I will be sooo grateful

Thank you SO much ani_! This made my gaming experience AMAZING! I don't use it religiously, but it's great to have around. I'm actually thinking about creating a character to just go around killing people and having someone to kill him to make him stop. (I have a very devilish mind.) Maybe just make him to kill my enemies, but we'll see. Thanks a million times over!

I have a problem with this mod. Whenever i try to kill anyone the "Murderer" just stays still and does nothing. Only way to unfreeze her is to make her pee her pants :P
But i installled everything right (Probably) and the teddy is in her inventory. Whatsss wroooooooooooooong???

ok it took a while but i finally got it to work and its awesome! for ANYONE WHO STILL CANNOT GET IT TO WORK...use the new way of installing cc to the game go back to the overview and follow instuctions word for word, than you can use it!

I don't know what I did, but I tried following the instructions, and I got confused and I MAY have put it in the wrong place? I have no clue what I did but my game won't work anymore. When I click on the game it says, "There has been an error, please log in". It's messed up. I think I messed it up because I tried my best at following the instuctions, but I got confused and....yeah. D: It hasn't been working ever since I tried downloading this :S

really annoyed because everybody else knows how to download it and when i find out how to... i can't use it because i've got ambitions, late night, outdoor living stuff, high end lofts stuff, world adventures and the base game. gutted...
otherwise im sure i would have loved it.
is there by any chance you can improve it to work with the stuff packs and stuff? its not very fun starving them to death. i mean, where is the justice?! ):

Hi.
there's a problem I've got with this teddy. after I've done what's said, I start the sims 3 LN and everythings working out smooth. at the main menu it sais something about a modscript (dexter the bear). i start my dexter-family and are about to place it but when i klick on the "Dexter bear" in buy-mode, everything becomes black. then a little warning-window comes up that says something like: Thesims3 stopped working,close program? "yes".
i have tried everything, and i dont know what im doing wrong..
i would be very happy for a reply

First off, this mod is great. However, it seems to be messing with my cc--it doesn't show up anymore. I'm using the new way of installing content, so is there another reason this is happening? I have late night.

brendanmel: I have everything except Generations, and I'm using the new way of adding mods and it works just fine. Just double check your folder structure/resource file is correct.

I'm not getting the chainsaw option! I can beat em with a poker, bash em with a hammer, and poke em with a knife, but the chainsaw is being stubborn. Is there something special I need to do for the option to come up? I haven't tried it yet, but the ?Talk through Dexter" was a nice touch!
The negative moodlets are a little excessive. For the guy that kills his neighbor over a property line dispute they're OK, but I'm playing an assassin with the Careers mod. I have to kill as part of the job, and after 7 days of a -225 mood modifier I usually end up getting demoted. Any way to dial this back a little bit? The Sim that kills for a living isn't going to feel much remorse IMO. This carries the name Dexter, I doubt if he feels much of anything after a kill.

sciguy77: The chainsaw is something I would like to add, but haven't had the time to do it yet.
If your killer is evil, or mean spirited, they won't get negative moodlets from killing. You can also delete the moodlet by turning on testing cheats enabled, then shift or ctrl clicking on the moodlet in question.

Thnx Ani. Where it says "And the new one -- Slash with a chain saw" on the overview page made me think you'd just added it. Also, it makes sense that the killer needs to be evil to avoid the negative moodlets. Time to go start training my next assassin by stealing some candy from his son! This mod ROCKS by the way ===

it doesnt work for me!!! T___T when i download that dexter the bear thing it gives me a folder with a "file that looks a like a piece of paper" and when i click on it, it will tell me that it connot open the website O.O

I know this probably has been mentioned before but it would be awesome if you could add a feature that gives your evil sim a debuff so many days after he killed his previous victim. Just like in Dexter where he has his dark urges that return after he kills someone. I guess a simple way of explaining it would be like how coffee works in sims 3 and after the buff wears out you get a crash.

Ani, I think it would be great if you could address the issue of not being able to place bear into inventory or make instructions clearer on your download page. Because most of the people here seem to be having this issue with the mod. thanks.

I also can't put the bear into inventory. I have the dll file from step 2 placed in my game bin and I only have the base game, no EPs. What is the problem?

This is fantastic ... I'm not sure it can be done (as I haven't installed it yet), but if you put this in a SIM's inventory and move them out into their own place, will they kill on their own if they are evil, insane, etc.? I think it would be cool to have a random killer in my town to add some story twists and keep it interesting. On occassion of course, I don't want them killing the entire town. If it can't (but you could do that). It would be an amazing update.

I have a question about the instalation of the framework. It comes with 3 files: Mods, Game and Resource. I only know where the Mods go.
Considering I have all the current expansions and object packs, should I install the Game and the Resource on the base game or on the latest expansion?

Is the framework still necessary? I thought that dated back to before late night when you needed to create somewhere to put mods, now EA allows/wants the mods in documents I thought framework was obsolete?

I don't think so. I tried playing today and even Awesomemod didn't work. So I took everything out, and put things back in one at a time, and dexter didn't work. It appeared but I could not use it at all
